PRODUCTION RECORD:
2003: AD Do-Wah-Didde: Dark brown/bay black (now turning gray on his neck) male by True Black Peruvian Eclipse. Gelded due to ear scarring inherited from sire only (sold, but we later traded another gelding for him & he's back home now to stay! We just love this boy!,)
Full coverage, great crimp, great bone, delivered unassisted, but unfortunately unobserved in standing water from a storm's runoff, and the cria drowned at birth.
7/15/05: AD Marengo (Sold before he was weaned): Medium rose gray/roan male by ELK Napoleon. Vigorous, strong conformation, and corkscrew curls all over, very bright fleece, doing well in the show ring for his new owners. (Photo right)
7/21/06: AD Denali, by ELK Napoleon, Light brown male with some white, see photos at left. Vigorous from the start, solid straight conformation and strong bone, loads and loads of fleece. Took 2nd place in shorn halter and 1st in Open Showmanship at his first show at just under 1 year of age. Handsome boy!! Sold
We exposed Didde to a newly breeding young male in '06 but he apparently wasn't 'putting out the goods,' so she remained open. We thought we had her bred for '08 but she had a (very) persistent retained CL which was cleared and she was rebred two additional times, only to have the retained CL remain. She continues to have a high Progesterone count so she 'thinks' she's pregnant, so she is not constantly trying to get bred, and better still, she spits on males, so we have used her to wean young male crias with very successfully for several years now. Didde is super easy to handle and a very easy keeper, she maintains a svelt 145 within a few pounds of that year round. She DOES have some sort of allergy in the summer which results in very dry, scaly skin around her eyes, ears, mouth, armpits, and udder. This goes away EVERY Fall. Another reason not to try to breed her again, as it would be very irritating to her udder.
SHOW RECORD:
- 2nd Place 2003 AOBA Conference Fleece show, Spinner's Choice Gray, out of 7 in the class!
-5th Place 2002 All American Alpaca Futurity
COMMENTS: Didde's dam, Lanark's Lara, was one of our favorite females for several years, and her sire is an Alianza import as well. We sold Lara with a male cria at her side who later took the fawn Color Championship at his first show!
